Love Wimbledon: top tips for a day at the tennis

Sun, style... and strawberries. Your guide to a day out at Wimbledon.

It seems Summer 2018 is all about the sport! It’s fair to say that Wimbledon has been somewhat overshadowed by Football Fever this year, but nothing sums up the British summer quite like two weeks of tennis, so we decided to take a day trip to soak up the atmosphere... and the sunshine!

Despite Andy Murray’s absence from this year’s tournament, there’s still plenty of excitement as the Championships heat up; with Kevin Anderson's stunning win over Roger Federer and Serena Williams showing a remarkable return to top form after the birth of her daughter.

If you’re thinking of making the trip to the All England Club before the end of the tournament, check our tips for a fab day out!

1. Set your alarm

If you weren’t lucky enough to get tickets in the ballot and you’re planning to brave the queue, be prepared for a very early start. Make sure you pack a picnic to enjoy as the excitement builds and the sun rises; the camaraderie is fantastic and is all part of the experience!

2. Take in the atmosphere!

It’s worth exploring the outer courts, where you can get very close to the action and see some top players, and if you’re lucky enough to get on to Centre Court the atmosphere is amazing. Wimbledon wouldn’t be Wimbledon without the obligatory strawberries and cream... plus a glass of Pimm’s is a must! We were blown away by the organisation and presentation of the complex, and we’ve never seen so many hydrangeas!

3. Plan your outfit

This year’s Wimbledon is set to be the hottest since the Championships began in 1877, so don’t forget your sunglasses, a fan, sun cream and most importantly, a hat!

We spotted some fabulous outfits which looked stylish, comfortable and cool, from beautiful floral dresses to pleated skirts and white floaty tops. When it comes to celebrity style, Pippa’s broderie anglaise dress stood out for us; get the look with a similar dress - we think it’s a perfect match for a pair of Salt-Water tan leather sandals from our Bath Boutique.

Whatever you choose to wear to Wimbledon, we think these sandals are an essential! Comfortable enough for walking between courts, a pair of Salt-Water “Classics” will go with anything from dresses and skirts to shorts for a more casual look.

Saltwater sandals are available at our Bath store; choose from a fabulous selection of colours - classic navy or tan, or why not go for a brighter red and yellow to brighten up your summer outfits. Salt-Water has been one of the footwear stories of the decade and they’re perfect to wear to any summer event, as well as a day at the beach (they can even be worn in the sea)!
