The Kitten Heel: Our Style Guide
Kitten heels became a micro trend in 2019 and for 2020, they are set to become a major one. The style has appeared throughout history, worn by the likes of Audrey Hepburn in the ‘60s and Princess Diana in the late ‘90s.
Despite such aspirational women wearing the style, it hasn’t always been viewed in the best light. The micro-heel was often hindered by the reputation of being only for young girls, as a height appropriate option for learning to walk in heeled shoes.
The heel-height has also been viewed as a style reserved for the more mature woman, as a comfortable yet smart option and a nod to youthful fashion.
Yet moving into modern day, the kitten heel has seen a revival, seen on celebrities and influential women of all ages in recent years. Considerably more formal than flats, the kitten heel boasts leg-lengthening qualities without hindering comfort levels; making its newfound popularity unsurprising.
If you still have reservations when it comes to kitten keels, what’s important to note is your outfit, which brings the minute-heel into its own.
Somerton is our stand-out kitten heel boot new for SS20. A modern take on the Chelsea boot, the style features a pointed toe, piped edging, an elasticated side panel and of course, a kitten heel. Available in red suede and white and black hair leather, the boots are striking yet surprisingly easy to incorporate into your everyday wardrobe.
To prove our point, we have put together wearable styling suggestions, using clothing you are sure to already own. If this is not the case, we recommend shopping second-hand, which of course is great for the environment, but often proves purse-friendly too.
Red works great for the office. Pare it back with black tailoring and a crisp white shirt. When it comes to the weekend, trousers are easily swapped-out for straight leg jeans. Opt for a raw hem and swap the shirt for a t-shirt for ultimate casual style.
Somerton White and Black Hair Leather is a versatile option. Thanks to the monochromatic print, colour pairs easily, giving you ultimate freedom.
Coral is set to be a standout colour for SS20, as set by The Colour Institute Pantone. Opting for this colour is sure to brighten up your outfit, perfectly in keeping with the warmer months. We think adding it through one piece is the easiest and most wearable way, especially for the less brave amongst us.
The boots work just as well with skirts as they do jeans and trousers. Thanks to the V-shape elasticated side panel, they don’t lose their flattering quality when styled more androgynous.
