Style Guide: Desert boots
Desert boots as a style are an understated, casual design which have been a wardrobe must-have for both men and women alike for decades.
Often referred to as ‘Chukka boots’ the style is defined by its characteristics of sitting high on the ankle and having minimal eyelets. Typically made from light leather and with a rubber sole, the style is near to weightless by nature.
The style was first donned by off duty army officers when stationed in Burma, quickly becoming popular due to their comfort. It is said the officers had the boots specially made, as they were a style which was both lightweight and offered good traction on a whole host of terrains, from sand to stone. They also proved durable for all weathers, and with being a casual enough style for off duty, they ticked every box.
The style was first conned in Britain, making it recognisable as inherently British around the world. Moving into present day, the Desert boot has had several re-designs, giving you plenty of options to suit your style. What is key to say, however, is that whichever way the boot is re-designed, it always remains true to its core design heritage.

For Spring/Summer ’20, we have introduced Delmore, a traditional Desert boot and a style you’ll never want to take off. Make sure you stand out from the rest with the embossed suede finish on these boots, that are available in a khaki or grey accent. Such embossing gives texture to the boots which is most dynamic when seen up-close, yet from afar gives a subtle interest. With comfortable sock padding and faux elasticated laces, they are sure to make their way into your everyday.
The Desert boot is both fashionable and functional, a classic choice for many casual events or outings. Somewhat androgynous having long been a staple style for men, however, the design easily works with feminine styling, just opt for softer accents, shapes and prints. Thankfully, we’ve put together some easy styling suggestions to help get you started.
